Es el tercero de su clase y ahora se enviar\u00e1 a M\u00fanich para someterse a exhaustivas pruebas ambientales que demuestren su aptitud para el espacio. La campa\u00f1a de pruebas durar\u00e1 hasta marzo de 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Los datos recogidos por los sat\u00e9lites Sentinel-2 se utilizan para vigilar el uso y los cambios del terreno, el sellado del suelo, la gesti\u00f3n de la tierra, la agricultura, la silvicultura, las cat\u00e1strofes naturales (inundaciones, incendios forestales, deslizamientos de tierra y erosi\u00f3n) y para ayudar a las misiones de ayuda humanitaria. La observaci\u00f3n del medio ambiente en las zonas costeras tambi\u00e9n forma parte de estas actividades, as\u00ed como la vigilancia de los glaciares, el hielo y la nieve.<\/p>\n<p>Ofreciendo una \u00abvisi\u00f3n en color\u00bb para el programa Copernicus, Sentinel-2C \u2013 al igual que sus sat\u00e9lites precursores Sentinel-2A y -2B \u2013 ofrecer\u00e1 im\u00e1genes \u00f3pticas desde el rango visible hasta el infrarrojo de onda corta del espectro electromagn\u00e9tico. Desde una altitud de 786 kil\u00f3metros, el sat\u00e9lite \u00abC\u00bb, de 1,1 toneladas, permitir\u00e1 seguir tomando im\u00e1genes en 13 bandas espectrales con una resoluci\u00f3n de 10, 20 o 60 metros y una anchura de barrido \u00fanica de 290 km.<\/p>\n<p>La estructura del telescopio y los espejos son de carburo de silicio, pionera en Airbus para proporcionar una estabilidad \u00f3ptica muy elevada, minimizando la deformaci\u00f3n termoel\u00e1stica, lo que da lugar a una excelente calidad geom\u00e9trica de la imagen. Esto no tiene precedentes en esta categor\u00eda de captadores \u00f3pticos. Cada sat\u00e9lite Sentinel-2 recoge 1,5 terabytes al d\u00eda, despu\u00e9s de una compresi\u00f3n a bordo. Los datos se formatean a alta velocidad y se almacenan temporalmente a bordo en la unidad de Memoria Masiva y Formateo de mayor capacidad que vuela actualmente en el espacio. La grabaci\u00f3n de datos y el enlace descendente con l\u00e1ser pueden tener lugar simult\u00e1neamente, a alta velocidad a trav\u00e9s de la SpaceDataHighway del sat\u00e9lite EDRS, adem\u00e1s del enlace directo en banda X con las estaciones terrestres.<\/p>\n<p>La misi\u00f3n Sentinel-2 se basa en una constelaci\u00f3n de dos sat\u00e9lites id\u00e9nticos, Sentinel-2A (lanzado en 2015) y Sentinel-2B (lanzado en 2017), volando en la misma \u00f3rbita pero separados 180\u00b0 entre s\u00ed para una cobertura y tiempo de revisita \u00f3ptimos. Los sat\u00e9lites orbitan la Tierra cada 100 minutos, cubriendo todas las superficies terrestres de la Tierra, las grandes islas y las aguas interiores y costeras cada cinco d\u00edas.<\/p>\n<p>En la actualidad, los sat\u00e9lites Sentinel-2 est\u00e1n detectando sistem\u00e1ticamente todas las zonas terrestres y acu\u00e1ticas, produciendo excelentes resultados. El a\u00f1o pasado, la misi\u00f3n Sentinel-2 se mantuvo como la primera misi\u00f3n europea en t\u00e9rminos de publicaciones cient\u00edficas revisadas por colegas (1200 durante 2020) y volumen de datos distribuidos a los usuarios.<\/p>\n<p>La misi\u00f3n Sentinel-2 ha sido posible gracias a la estrecha colaboraci\u00f3n entre la ESA, la Comisi\u00f3n Europea, la industria, los proveedores de servicios y los usuarios de datos. En su desarrollo han participado unas 60 empresas, encabezadas por Airbus Defence and Space en Alemania para los sat\u00e9lites y Airbus Defence and Space en Francia para los instrumentos multiespectrales, mientras que Airbus Defence and Space en Espa\u00f1a es responsable de la estructura mec\u00e1nica del sat\u00e9lite.<\/p>\n<p>Copernicus, el programa europeo de vigilancia del medio ambiente, est\u00e1 dirigido por la Comisi\u00f3n Europea (CE) en colaboraci\u00f3n con la Agencia Espacial Europea (ESA).
