En el proyecto est\u00e1n involucradas 24 empresas -siete de ellas son espa\u00f1olas- de hasta 11 pa\u00edses europeos. \u201cLa misi\u00f3n nos permitir\u00e1 una primera caracterizaci\u00f3n de la composici\u00f3n y la naturaleza de planetas m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de nuestro Sistema Solar\u201d afirm\u00f3 G\u00fcnther Hasinger, director de Ciencia de la ESA. Desde la agencia espacial europea se muestran muy satisfechos de poder lanzar CHEOPS este mismo a\u00f1o. El proyecto es la primera misi\u00f3n de la ESA que Espa\u00f1a se adjudica en competici\u00f3n abierta, y est\u00e1 incluido dentro del Programa Cosmic Vision 2015-2025. Cheops es el primer sat\u00e9lite de la ESA dedicado a los exoplanetas cuya misi\u00f3n ser\u00e1 observar estrellas brillantes, con el fin de detectar la disminuci\u00f3n que se produce cuando un planeta ha pasado por delante.
