La ESA inicia el desarrollo del Ariane 6

The ESA has given the green light to begin development of the Ariane 6 launcher. Airbus Defence and Space has again been chosen to develop this latest version.

It has been designed to outperform its predecessor, the world-renowned Ariane 5, which has become the most reliable vehicle for commercial launches in the market, placing in orbit more than 500 satellites since Arianespace was founded in 1980.

The Ariane 6 will make its maiden flight in 2020 from the Kourou base in French Guiana, as its predecessors have done. It will have a modular design and come in two versions: the A62, with two supporting thrusters, and the A64 with four, depending on the flight needs. The Ariane 6 is configured to be a more competitive rocket: each flight will cost customers some 70 million euros.
